Mercury Contamination on Tuna part 2
Tuna is carnivorous animal which is mean it consume smaller fish to survive. As most of the fish and shellfish are contaminated by mercury, bigger size tuna has higher accumulated contamination of mercury compare to the smaller size. Unfortunately, many people argue that huge fresh tuna is better than canned tuna because canned tuna has higher exposure to metal substances contamination. In fact, canned tuna are manufactured by using small size tuna that being chopped and mixed together hence has lower level of mercury toxicity. Additionally, FDA categorized canned light tuna along with shrimp, salmon, Pollock and catfish as having low level of mercury. In the same time, canned tuna are now available in plastic and even paper box package to reduce the contamination exposure.
Healthy diet has become a style today, and people are being more conscious about their food. Nevertheless, we still need to encourage ourselves as well as our community to increase our awareness towards our natural environment. It is so sad to realize that all of the benefit that we can get from consuming tuna and other seafood might be overruled by the risk of food poisoning. In fact, it’s undeniable that most of the pollution that leads to the food contamination is originated by us. We cannot just put the blame for this poor environment condition to the big factories that discharge their huge waste to the ocean, water, air, or perhaps to the ground. We must realize that some of that pollution comes from our house, office even our car. Hereby, we have to begin to maintain our environment by being more responsible when discharging our garbage. Maintain our environment means we make huge steps to maintain our next generation. Finally we have to always remember that preventing further pollution can help reducing our risk towards food contamination and creating more sustainable environment for our future generation.
